Explore Mars Strengthens Advisory Board with Addition of NASA's only Nobel Prize Physicist

Explore Mars, Inc. is honored to announce that Nobel Prize winner, Dr. John Mather, has joined our Advisory Board. Dr. Mather led NASA’s Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE) satellite science team. This work resulted in Mather, along with co-recipient George F. Smoot, being presented with the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics for discoveries supporting the big-bang theory. Mather remains the only NASA employee to win the prestigious award. Mather also led the science team for the James Webb Space Telescope.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. John Mather to the Explore Mars Advisory Board,” said Dr. Jim Green, Chair of the Explore Mars Advisory Board. “His groundbreaking contributions to astrophysics, his leadership with the James Webb Space Telescope, and his unparalleled perspective as a Nobel laureate will significantly strengthen our ability to promote and advocate human exploration of Mars. John's insight into how tackling challenges on Mars can directly benefit life on Earth aligns perfectly with our vision, and we look forward to leveraging his expertise as we pave the way for humanity's next giant leap."

According to Mather, “I see tremendous opportunities for us here on Earth, as we will learn to live in the most difficult environments we can imagine: farming on Mars, making fuel from water and carbon dioxide, and living in tiny houses.”

The Advisory Board was established to provide expert guidance and strategic advice to support our organization's mission of establishing a human presence on Mars in the 2030s. The Advisory Board will continue to leverage its extensive expertise in aerospace and related fields to advance the goals of Explore Mars Inc. and to promote collaboration within the global space community.
