Jennifer Eigenbrode is an interdisciplinary astrobiologist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, specializing in organic (bio)geochemistry of martian and ocean-world environments. As a Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) collaborator and participating scientist for the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, she investigates in situ detection, alteration, and preservation of organic molecules and salts in irradiated and aqueously altered martian sediments. Her research focuses on the processes and materials that impact extraterrestrial records of organic chemical evolution (abiotic to biotic transitions) in rocks, sediments, ice, and aerosols. Her work is motivated by understanding organic chemicals on planets and moons beyond Earth and includes technology developments that improve planetary mission design, contamination control, instrument measurements, and in situ resource utilization. Aside from her research, she has led subsurface-Mars and Enceladus mission concepts.
